CLS may be installed on all computers which run 32-bit versions of Windows^® XP, Windows Vista^®, or Windows^® 7.  It may also be installed in "Windows XP Mode" running under Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate (32- or 64-bit versions).  With the exception of "Windows XP Mode", CLS is NOT compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.

CLS requires a non-host based laser printer that supports HP's PCL language.  In the XP environment (including XP Mode), these printers can usually be captured for CLS with Windows "Net Use" command.

If CLS is installed directly under Vista or Windows 7, a third-party program, Printfil, must be used to send CLS reports to the printer.  Printfil may also be used with XP, Vista or Windows 7 to print standard CLS reports (but not payroll tax forms) on a Windows-only printer or send them to a PDF writer.  Printfil is available directly from FMSI.
